Sunol Wildflower Festival Saturday, April 14, 2012 11 am – 4 pm
Sunol Regional Wilderness will be holding its ninth annual Spring Wildflower Festival on Saturday April 14, 2012 from 11 am – 4 pm. The festival will take place near the Old Green Barn Visitor Center at Sunol Regional Wilderness at the end of Geary Road off of Calaveras.
Anyone with an interest in wildflowers or nature is encouraged to attend – there is something for all ages and abilities. Interpretive staff will provide fun and easy ways to identify wildflowers and the best places and times to see different varieties.
Nature slideshows, exhibits, and hikes of various lengths and subjects will be offered throughout the day. Hikes range from kid-friendly, seniors, tots in strollers, butterflies, and ethnobotany, to longer flower hikes to Little Yosemite and its famed waterfalls. Activities also include arts and crafts, face painting, henna body art, slideshows and music. There are no food concessions in the park so visitors should bring a lunch and enjoy a picnic in the great outdoors.

I was at Sunol yesterday (April 9th) and there was not much blooming on Indian Joe nor Haystack Trails. I didn’t check out the Ohlone nor Canyon Trails ( both have been good in previous yrs.) There were a few shooting stars just above Welch Rd. We are having rain this week but should clear for the Festival – I hope that encourages some flowering, but don’t expect a great show.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully, the rains will produce at least a fair wildflower season. Yesterday at Pt. Reyes there were definitely flowers but less than usual for this time of year.
