Today I went to the UC Botanical Garden (Berkeley,CA) to see what flowers had started to bloom. I spent most of the time in the California Natives and Asian sections. Species with a lot of blooms included Wild Currants and Gooseberries, California Poppies, Ceanothus, Rhododendrons and Camelias. Although I focused mainly on flowers today, there was a lot of bird activity including Stellar’s Jay, Spotted Towhee, Bushtit, Anna’s Hummingbird, Wrentit, Oak Titmouse, Hermit Thrush (?), Black Phoebe, Dark-eyed Juncos, and Chestnut-backed Chickadee(?).
Here are today’s photos. The California Pipevine photo is from my front porch. It is also in bloom at the UC Botanical Garden.
