Taurids Meteor Shower November 5 to 12, 2011

The Taurids Meteor Shower takes place November 5 to 12 this year. It is actually two streams of meteors the North Taurids and the South Taurids. It is associated with the comet Encke. It is believed that Encke and the Taurids are remnants of a larger comet. The meteor shower is at a rate of about 7  to 15 per hour, moving slowly across the sky at about 17 miles per second  or 65,000 miles per hour. They are bright yellow and often fragment into multiple meteors.  Taurid meteors radiate from the sky not far from the Pleiades star cluster in Taurus.
