The Sacramento Bee posted its Fall Leaves report Best Bets for fall leaf color October 14 to 26:  Their  suggestions for best color:

  • Intake 2 to Aspendell  area and South Fork Bishop Creek around Mountain Glen
  • Bishop Park
  • Old Parcher’s road on the south Fork Bishop Creek.
  • Conway Summit is beginning to turn and will have full color by mid-week next week.
  • Convict Lake  full color by mid-week.
  • Rock Creek canyon’s walls are still pretty good but falling rapidly; best at the lower end of the canyon.

Calphoto’s Fall Color in California and Yahoo discussion group Where to Photograph in California have a number of postings on fall color information for the Sierra.  The reports were  somewhat contradictory.  Some best guesses are:

  • North Lake is probably past due to the storm
  • South Lake will probably have good color soon
  • Below South Lake is mostly green
  • Rock Creek has good color
  • Convict Lake  is past but there is color on the hill
  • Hope Valley is green
  • Yosemite Valley will be late, which probably means a few weeks away
  • Lundy Canyon mostly green
  • June Lake may show promise
  • Virginia Creek is past
