Eastern Sierra Fall Foliage 10/7/11

Updated late 10/7/11

This evening there is a new Eastern Sierra Update on the  California Nature Photographers Forum Fall Foliage thread. The fall color has taken a serious hit from the recent storm. At Virginia Lakes and Bishop Creek many leaves either  have large brown spots or are on the ground. Also the lava curl behind North Lake has turned started turning brown. The best color opportunity for fall foliage may be in a week or more when the leaves that are now green start to turn.

The Sacramento Bee posted a fall foliage report today. They reported that the best fall color spots are Sabrina Basin and Sabrina Lake, Table Mountain Meadow to Parchers, and Conway Summit meadows above the summit. Check with Caltrans for road conditions and closings before going.

Read the full report and see the fall foliage map in the Sacramento Bee Best Bets for fall leaf color, Oct. 7-9

Calphoto’s Fall Foliage in California has a first hand report of the effects of snow and some road conditions over the last two days.
