Investing In Nature

YubaNet published an article recently  by the Worldwatch Valuing Nature’s Services Today Is an Investment in the Future.  It talks about “payments for ecosytems” as a way to protect biodiversity and decrease the effects of climate change.

“They include payments for projects that invest in biodiversity and watershed protection, ecosystem restoration, and carbon capture in forests.”

Two programs that support payments for ecosystems were established in 2008: United Nations’ Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) Programme and the World Bank Forest Carbon Partnership Facility.  To read more about these programs and the successes go to Valuing Nature’s Services Today Is an Investment in the Future.
