Eastern Sierra Wildflower Bloom Report 7/27/11

I just received these wildflower updates from a BLM botanist:

“It might be a little late for the lower part of McGee Creek  but I haven’t been to that trailhead in over a month.
This past weekend I hiked out of the Horton Lakes trailhead which is out past the Buttermilks, the trailhead starts at about 8,000 feet, I was surprised how much was still in peak bloom at that elevation.  Lots of buckwheat and paintbrush along with many other species.
I often recommend the hike along the South Fork of Big Pine Creek because it seems to have good displays.
Parts of the Bodie’s are past their peak but some of the higher elevation places with a more northern exposure still have lot’s blooming.  Good displays of lupine! “
