More Eastern Sierra Wildflower Updates 7/18/11

Cory Freeman just posted an eastern Sierra Nevada wildflower bloom report at the California Forum  at Nature Photographers Net. He reports on Long Lake and Rock Creek areas:

“Looks to be a good year for flowers over here on the East side. Last weekend I went up to Long Lake which is on the Bishop Pass Trail out of south lake, bishop creek canyon. Lots of flowers just below Parchers Resort thinning a bit to the trail head parking which is around 9200′ I believe. Most of the flowers below parchers are the typical indian paint brush, lupine, penstemon, and yellow and purple flowers I don’t know the names of. Lots of shooting stars out at the trail head and some at long lake, 10,800 but it will be probably next weekend or towards the end of this month that the flowers at Long Lake come into bloom. Just a guess there.

Was up at Rock Creek Canyon to Mack Lake on Sat. Lots of flowers along the road between, oh I’d say Iris CG to Rock Creek Lake. Beyond RC Lake to Mosquito Flats flowers showing but less than the lower elevation. Same along LLV trail. Shooting stars out but still a good week or two to go above 10, 000.”
