Lawsuit Filed To Protect Franciscan Manzanita

Wild Equity Institute has filed a lawsuit in federal court to help protect the Franciscan Manzanita (Arctostaphylos franciscana).  Previously thought to be extinct the plant was found in the Presidio in 2009.   The U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife Service has not yet listed Franciscan Manzanita as an endangered plant.  The intent of the lawsuit is gain endangered protection for the species.  Read more in the LA Times: Rare plant, Franciscan Manzanita, subject of federal lawsuit in San Francisco – latimes.com.
