Anza Borrego Wildflower Update 4-15-2011

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park reports on 4/15/11:

“Annual wildflowers have largely dried up in parts of the Borrego
Valley, but can still be found in many of the canyons in the park.
Cacti are coming into bloom in full force, and should be good for
another week or so, along with shrubs, trees, agave and ocotillo.”

Anza Borrego Desert Natural History Association reported on April 11:

“In the valleys and in the mountains, the cacti are in flower. The Gander’s Cholla and the Silver Cholla are quietly displaying yellow/green (or is it green/yellow?) flowers. The Barrel Cacti are out with yellow flowers. Most noticeably, it’s the red flowers of the Beavertail and Hedgehog that you see. In Blair Valley, no more than a quarter of a mile down the Morteros Trail we found some especially nice displays of Hedgehog Cactus, including at least one plant with 100 stems either in flower or about to flower.”
