Increases Risk For Amur Tiger Population

The BBC reports that although the population of Amur tigers is 500, what is called the effective population is 14.  Effective population reflects the genetic diversity in a species.  Lower genetic diversity decreases the survival prospects of a species as it increases the risk of diseases or genetic disorders being passes to future generations.  Read more at BBC – Earth News – Amur tigers in population crisis.
