Abundant fall rains and warm winter temperatures have led to an early start to the blooming season, with annuals and perennial shrubs already making a good showing in washes and western canyons.
However, due to recent freezes, we do not expect dramatic fields of flowers. Our best advice for a year like this one visit now, and come back often, to maximize your chances of seeing your favorite desert wildflowers in bloom.

ABF has teamed up with members of the Anza-Borrego Botany Society to offer guided Wildflower Walks to the best bloom locations. Plan to join us for one trip or many! See the full list of dates
- All walks are from 9:00 11:30 am, no registration required
- $5 per person (includes a full-color wildflower brochure)

Follow the Flowers to Nolina Wash
Sunday, February 27, 9 am 2 pm
As the weather gets warmer, follow the flowers from the desert floor, to rocky canyons, and then to rolling hills. Enjoy canyon flowers and a day away from the crowds on this 4-mile hike in Nolina Wash, a favorite of many naturalists. Find out more
Free Park Interpretive Programs
Did you know that Anza-Borrego Desert State Park has a full calendar of free programs for park visitors? Take an early morning bird walk or learn more about that “wiley” coyote you hear singing at night. ABDSP volunteers offer a variety of intriguing talks, walks and hikes all month long.
