Many but not all species are moving uphill, some are moving downhill to look for water
Many animals are moving to higher ground or towards the poles as they seek cooler temperatures. UC- Berkeley scientists have documented that half of Yosemite mountain species have moved their habitats up an average of 150 yards. The resultant change in climate may well lead to the extinction of many species. A Yale scientist’s research says that 300 out of 1000 mountains birds that were studied are threatened by potential habitat destructions from warmer temperatures. However, as many plants and animals move towards cooler areas to adapt to a warmer planet, this is not always the case with all plants. A recent study in Science reports that there are plants in Northern California that are moving towards lower and wetter areas. Climate change not only is effecting temperature but also precipitation. Some plants are moving downhill towards areas where there is more moisture. This creates another problem as the pollinators may be moving uphill due to temperature, which may also result could result in losses to both the pollinator and plant species. Read more at: Calif.
