Millions of Undeveloped Acres Eligible for Protection

Federal Government Brings Back Land Protection Policies

The Federal Government’s Christmas present to the environment is a reversal of Bush administration policy on public lands.  The Department of Interior announced that millions of acres of undeveloped land are again eligible for federal protection.  220 million acres of BLM land will be reviewed to see which lands will be given a “Wild Lands” designation.  This  is an intermediate step for lands to be permanently designated as wilderness.  It will be up to congress to grant permanent wilderness status.  To read more go  NPR: Obama To Restore Wilderness Rules For Public Lands : NPR. and NY Times: Bush Policy on Lands Is Reversed
