The Lunar Eclipse

Updated 12/21/10

We Saw It !!!

The forecast was cloudy and the chances of seeing the eclipse seemed like slim to none.  Somehow the clouds kept breaking up last night and the eclipse was visible much of the time from our backyard in Berkeley, CA.  Both the partial and total eclipse were clear at times. There were even some periods where all of  the Orion constellation was visible.  Watching through binoculars, the eclipse was amazing and moving.  It seemed surreal. (Like something from space)  The last time the Winter Solstice and a total eclipse of the moon occurred on the same  day was Dec. 21, 1638.
