On March 22 I wrote about the possibility of a new Bay Area National Monument. The L.A. Times recently reported on fourteen possible new national monuments including four in California. The four proposed areas are:
- Berryessa-Snow Mountain, Calif.
- Bodie Hills, Calif.
- Cascade-Siskiyou, Calif.
- Modoc Plateau, Calif.
- Heart of the Great Basin, Nev.
- San Rafael Swell, Utah
- Northern Prairie, Mont.
- Lesser Prairie Chicken Preserve, N.M.
- Otero Mesa, N.M.
- Northwest Sonoran Desert, Ariz.
- Owyhee Desert, Oregon/Nevada
- Vermillion Basin, Colo.
- Cedar Mesa, Utah
- San Juan Islands, Wash.

Audubon wrote that on August 5 Senator Barbara Boxer introduced a bill that Pinnacles National Monument be made a national Park.
