The current rains will bring on the mushroom season. If you are interested in viewing mushroom a good site for information about mushrooms and mushroom identification is MykoWeb: Mushrooms, Fungi, Mycology. It has photographs of over 600 species of mushrooms and other fungi found in California, with over 480 of the species with descriptions. There are over 5400 total photographs of the mushrooms. Included are links to other online descriptions and photos of the species treated plus references to common field guides.
The Mycological Society of San Francisco offers monthly meetings with programs, field trips, and sponsors the Fungus Faire, which is on December 8th this year at the SF County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park
Another valuable resource; John Wall has put together an excellent collection of photos of California mushrooms at CalPhotos. It includes 131 and is a very useful resource when trying to identify mushrooms this winter.
