Point Reyes Closures Tomorrow 1/31

CLOSURES ALERT

You may not have heard that the North Bay and Point Reyes National Seashore are supposed to get a big ol’ winter storm starting late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning and continuing through Thursday. In anticipation of dangerous road conditions, local flooding, strong winds, power outages, and falling trees (like the Doug fir pictured here from last winter), the Seashore announces the following CLOSURES for Wednesday, January 31st:

The Bear Valley Visitor Center will be CLOSED ALL DAY on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2024.
Please visit our website for current conditions
go.nps.gov/pore/currentconditions and also download the free NPS app and search for Point Reyes National Seashore. There are a ton of resources on there to help you plan your trip!

Drakes Beach will be CLOSED ALL DAY on Wednesday, Jan. 31st with no access to see the elephant seals on Drakes Beach. Elephant seals can still be seen from the overlook and the Historic Lifeboat Station, both accessed from the Chimney Rock parking lot.

Mount Vision Road will be closed to all traffic on Wednesday, Jan. 31st.
It’s probably best to just hunker down somewhere cozy, with a hot beverage, a blanket, and, given the recent winter conditions at other National Parks like Denali and Badlands where rangers are growing icicles on their eyelashes, consider us lucky! Stay safe out there!
Note: the Seashore itself will still be open tomorrow, but none of the visitor centers will be open and we will have limited staff working.
