BECOME A CERTIFIED CALIFORNIA NATURALIST!

Sign up to become a certified California Naturalist with Anza-Borrego Foundation through the lens of the desert!
We’ve teamed up with University of California Environmental Stewards to offer an in-depth course for adult learners on the natural processes that make California home to more plant and animal species than any other state in the United States.
This program includes nine weeks of expert-led field trips and online lectures, hands-on experience in the Park, environmental stewardship and so much more!
Fall Course Dates & Commitment
October 9th – December 16th
  • Online lectures held each Thursday evening.
  • In-person weekend Field Trips in Anza-Borrego: October 22, November 4, November 18, December 9
  • Course is ~48 hours, 24 of these in the field.
  • Students must spend an additional 8 hours on their capstone project.
Course Fees
$375 for ABF Members, $425 for general participants
  • Includes 3 months of online content, expert lectures, & guided field trips.
  • Scholarships available for financial hardship -Email Samantha@theABF.org for more information.
  • Participants are responsible for purchasing required texts, travel to/from field sites, nighttime accommodations, & optional UC extension credit fees.
Course Projects
Participants must complete:
  • A Capstone Project individually or as a group, which they present on graduation day,
  • Are responsible for at least 8 observations to the course iNaturalist Project,
  • Must contribute to the class participatory science project.
