Abstract: The City of Los Angeles permits the removal of one mature California Walnut on average once each week, and this rate is increasing. Dr. Longcore will present information about the ecology, distribution, and conservation status of California walnut and review the mechanisms that should be, but are not, protecting it in the environmental review process under current California laws and regulations.
Biography: Dr. Travis Longcore is Associate Adjunct Professor at the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, and Science Director of the Urban Wildlands Group, a Los Angeles-based conservation nonprofit. He is a Certified Senior Ecologist and Certified GIS Professional.  He holds degrees in geography from UCLA and the University of Delaware.
