Attn: This is a short summary of how the Trump administration’s 2019 budget will impact the environment.
1) Interior Department: Slashes $33 million, or 92 percent, of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which supports land acquisition and restoration efforts
2) National Park Service: Cuts 2,000 employees which are about 10 percent of overall all employees.
3) National Weather Service: Eliminate 355 jobs and $75 million from the weather service budget.
4) USGS: Slash budget by about 20.8 percent which would eliminate about 1,500 employees.
5) NOAA: Slash budget by about 19.6 percent which would eliminate about 2,000 employees.
6) Department of Agriculture: Cuts the $136 million in funding for conservation programs.
7) Energy Department: Slashes 66 percent of the budget for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, which studies advanced transportation, wind, and solar energy.
8) EPA: Slash budget by about 25%. Which will eliminate funding for state radon-detection programs, assistance to fund water system improvements along the U.S.-Mexico border, and partnerships to monitor and restore water quality in the Gulf of Mexico and other large water bodies.
9) NASA: Terminates the $100 million Office of Education and cuts development of the WFIRST telescope.
