Yesterday 4/30/16) we went to Abbott’s lagoon. We walked the Abbott’s Lagoon Trail to bridge between the two lagoons, the sand dunes and the headland south of the bridge. It was sunny in the 60’s and 70’s and windy. The tide was going out.
Many plants were in bloom. Number one were the many poppies. Also blooming in abundance were Yellow Bush Lupine, Cow Parsnip and Sea Pink. We identified five different species of Lupines in flower. We found a total of 48 plant species in flower.
The most abundant birds seen and singing were White-crowned Sparrows and Red-winged Blackbirds. We identified 17 bird species by sight and sound. Also seen were Field Crescents and an unidentified Blue Butterflies, Mule Deer and Dragonflies.
