Edgewood County Park 3/26/16

Where to photograph in California – Yahoo Groups (Calphoto) reports on Edgewood County Park in Redwood City, CA

It was certainly a nice walk, if not stunning yet with flowers. Some of the sunny open spaces where I expect to see flowers are just green. The open serpentine has quite a few bloomers and species, but they are not showy or dense.

Blue dicks are common nearer the wooded areas (while the wooded areas themselves are green and lush, not flowering much), and there are a few hills with nice shows of lupines, along with a handful of just past-prime grape soda lupines. If you’re near the Clarkia trail, it might be worth a detour to see a stretch of trail lined with Zigadenus.

There’s also an area of large blooming poison oak that had an astonishing number and variety of pollinators flying around. I’d recommend the Sylvan trail (which crosses a flowing creek and winds in and out of sunny spots of blue dicks), Sunset, the east and west (not really middle) sections of Serpentine, and maybe Ridgeview trails.
