Big Bend Wildflowers 3/2/16

Big Bend National Park reports on March 2, 2016

Bluebonnets (Lupinus havardii) are blooming along road edges in lower elevations, and should peak in mid-elevations in 1-2 weeks. A neat adaptation of these lupines is the changing hood color: the pale yellow turns to red when the flower is pollinated, keeping pollinators more attracted to unfertilized flowers.
