Jepson Prairie Wildflowers 2/24/15

Solano Land Trust Flickr Site reports

Jepson Praire was yesterday’s destination. Observed Lomatium caruifolium or Biscuit root, Viola pedunculate or California Golden Violet, Triphysaria eriantha or Butter and eggs, Blennosperma nanum or Yellow carpet, Lathenia fremontii or Fremont’s goldfields, Plaigiobothrys humistratus or small popcorn flower, Primula clevelandii var. patula or Padre’s shooting star, Achillea millifolium, Isocoma arguta or Carquinez golden bush, a couple of species of Trifolium, Lepidium nitidum or shining peppergrass, and near the south entrance to the Docent’s triangle (the area open to public hikes) numerous fritillary. There are flags set out as an exclosure due to the number of small fritillary growing in the area. There are also other flags set next to outlying ‘frits’ for photographing. Please exercise caution when photographing and DO NOT enter the exclosure. over 90 small plants, many showing only a single basal leaf, are growing in the area. They are difficult to see and can be easily damaged.

We are blessed with a broad range of flora found in a wide array of plant communities within the land trust properties. With the moderate weather we can expect many more blooms in the near future. Get out there and take a hike.

Docent let hikes, required for several of our preserves, can be scheduled or you can find already scheduled hikes on the Solano Land Trust webpage at solanolandtrust.org. You can also contact SLT staff for additional information at (707)432-0150.
