Birding Lake Temescal 12/18/15

Yesterday morning I spent about an hour birding Lake Temescal Regional Recreation Area in Oakland. It was a scouting trip for this Sunday’s Christmas bird count. I identified 20 species. Highlights were seeing Wood Duck, Belted Kingfisher,  Green Heron and Black-crowned Night-Heron. Most abundant were Double-crested Cormorant and American Coot.

I also saw a large group of small birds (approximately 20) flew over in distance. Maybe Cedar Waxwings or blackbirds?
