San Juan National Forest Fall Color 10/8/15

San Juan National Forest – reports on 10/8/15

Estimated Percentage of Current Fall Foliage:
Durango to Purgatory – 65%
Molas Pass – 85%
Silverton/Red Mtn Pass – past peak
Pagosa – 50% north, 80% south
Dolores to Lizard Head Pass – a bit past peak, still good pockets
Mancos/La Platas – 95% to past peak

Above 9,000 feet – a bit past peak, still good pockets

Areas with Greatest Amount of Color / Recommended Viewing Areas:
Molas Pass/Lime Creek
Lizard Head/Telluride

Missionary Ridge
Buckles Lake south of Pagosa

Estimated Peak Viewing Period:
Elevation below 9,000 feet.
Getting towards peak fast in some places

Viewing Suggestions / Tips:
Higher elevations mostly done for aspen.
Good photos with the snow capped peaks but the rough weather took out lots of leaves.

Trees That Are Currently Turning Color:
Aspens, oak and service berry.
