The BBC reported on how road side verges in Britain contain over 700 species of wildflowers, which is almost half of the native flora of the UK. the verges are critical habitat as many wildflower meadows have been converted to farmland. However about ten percent of these plants are at risk of extinction at least in part due to the verges being cut too early in the plants’ life cycles.
