The Albany Mudflats Ecological Reserve at low tide was full of waterbirds and shorebirds today. There were many American Avocets, American Wigeon, Green-wing Teal and Marbled Godwits. Also in good number were American Coots, Ring-billed Gulls, Northern Shovelers, Northern Pintails, Canadian Geese and Ruddy Ducks. Most surprising was seeing four Yellowlegs together, which was a first for me. We identified twenty-nine different birds. Today’s list: Albany Mudflats Bird List 11/14/14
The Albany Mudflats are tidal mudflats at the mouths of Codornices, Village, and Marin Creeks, between the Albany Bulb peninsula and Pt. Isabel. They are protected as important habitat for waterfowl and shorebirds.
