San Juan National Forest Fall Color 10/7/14

San Juan National Forest  has a new fall color report for 10/7/14

Estimated Percentage of Current Fall Foliage:
Durango/Purgatory – 80% aspens, 80% on Missionary
Molas Pass – 90% to Coal Bank
Silverton/Red Mountain Pass – 90% on Red Mtn, Silverton past
Pagosa –60% aspens high, 50% cottonwoods along river 
Dolores/Rico – 60%, 85% Rico and Lizard Head
Mancos – 60%

Areas with Greatest Amount of Color / Recommended Viewing Areas:
Purgatory to Coalbank.  Williams Creek Reservoir.  Below Herperus Peak.

Estimated Peak Viewing Period:
High country this week should be getting lower.  9-11,000 feet
The slightly lower areas below 9,000 ft getting good.  Pagosa, Dolores, Mancos changing fast.

Viewing Suggestions / Tips:
Sunnier sides and bigger groves peaking in places.

Trees That Are Currently Turning Color:
Aspens, some areas of oakbrush.
