San Juan Nat. Forest Fall Color 9/29/14

 San Juan National Forest has a new fall foliage report for date: 9/29/14

Estimated Percentage of Current Fall Foliage:
Durango/Purgatory – 50% aspens, 70% oakbrush on Missionary
Molas Pass – 90%
Silverton/Red Mountain Pass – 90% to past peak aspens
Pagosa –10% aspens high, 30% cottonwoods along river 
Dolores/Rico – 40% 
Mancos – 30%

Areas with Greatest Amount of Color / Recommended Viewing Areas:
Coal Bank to Molas Pass.  Lake City.
Cold weather may change things more quickly early this week.

Estimated Peak Viewing Period:
High country this week should be getting good.  10-12,000 feet

The slightly lower areas should be next week.  Pagosa still to change.

Viewing Suggestions / Tips:
Watch for wash outs on dirt roads.
Lake City. Ouray. Coalbank to Molas Pass.  Gold Run to Sharkstooth.

Trees That Are Currently Turning Color:
Aspens, some areas of oakbrush.
