Landers/Giant Rock Wildflower Update 3/26/14

DesertUSA has a new wildflower report for the Landers/Giant Rock area

Mar 27, 2014 – 3/26 was surprised to find the bloom spreading and thriving. Only the Dune evening primrose were in decline. Desert marigolds carpeted a large portion of the desert; it’s not the plush carpet of Coreopsis at Saddleback Butte, but it’s a carpet none-the-less. Desert dandelions took over nearer Giant Rock. There were lots more Mojave lupine; mounds of Wallace’s wooly daisies, Fremont’s pincushion, Little desert poppies, Brown-eyed primrose, Mojave suncups, Gilia and Phacelis sp., Scalebud, scattered Desert sand verbena and Freckled milkvetch, Silky dalea… The new flowers I found were Frost mat, Wishbone bush, Desert and Schott’s calico, Miniature wooly star, Wire lettuce, and Hole-in-the-sand plant. I just missed a blooming Prickly poppy, but there were some other plants yet to bloom.
