Birding Rush Ranch and Napa-Sonoma Marshes 2/24/14

Yesterday was the last field trip for the Golden Gate Raptors Class with Eddie Bartley. We went to Rush Ranch, which is part of the Solano Land Trust and to the Hudeman Slough and Huichica Creek Unit at  the Napa-Sonoma Marshes Wildlife Area. The most interesting raptors of the day were Ferruginous Hawks seen at Rush Ranch. Also seen in the course of the day were Turkey Vultures, Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels, Northern Harriers (one male displaying), Golden Eagle, and White-tailed Kites. Also seen were Great Horned Owls and a Barn Owl. Except for Eddie’s car on the way in to Rush Ranch, the rest of us didn’t get to see the Burrowing Owl. We had hoped to find Short-eared Owls at the Huichica Creek Unit but they were nowhere to be seen or heard today. My personal lists had thirty bird species each at Hudeman Slough and Rush Ranch and twenty species for the Huichica Creek Unit. I am sure Eddie had more on his list. Here are the links to my lists.
