21Condors Suffering From Lead Poisoning

Audublog reports that 21 condors are being treated for lead poisoning at the Los Angeles Zoo. The lead is most likely from lead ammunition in carrion that the condors eat. Hopefully, the new California law banning lead ammunition will significantly reduce future incidence of lead poisoning in condors.

This is an issue that seems to separate sportsmen from gun owners, in that sportsmen – people who care about wild animals and their environs – are supportive of restrictions on lead ammunition. By contrast, it seems “gun owners” are narrowly focused on what they perceive to be their “rights,” and the environment be damned.
