Birding Bodega Bay 10/27/13 – updated

The Bay Area fall birding field trip this past weekend was at Bodega Bay. It was a good day to see shorebirds. We also saw three species of cormorant, four species of grebes, a number of Common Loons, Ruddy Turnstones, and a Harbor Seal.  49 bird species were identified. We had hoped to find a Marbled Murrelet as one was seen by Saturday’s class field trip but the best we could do is identify it as a sickly grebe in an us usual posture that fooled as for a few minutes.  (after careful analysis of a photo the instructors concluded it was an neither but rather an immature Pigeon Guillemot Cepphus columba).
