The SF Chronicle has a story on the impact of the Mt. Diablo fire on various species. Some will benefit. Others will suffer.
Predators such as mountain lions, coyotes, and hawks will benefit as much of their prey has been displaced from their shelter. Wildflowers, especially Fire Poppies and Golden Eardrops will be plentiful in the Spring.
Losers include oak and buckeye tress, small animals including the threatened California red-legged frog, Alameda whipsnake and wrentits.
