Rim Fire Updates 8/30/13

The “Rim Fire” that is now burning in Stanislaus National Forest and the western end of Yosemite National Park is now 201,894 acres and 32 percent contained as of 7:04 am this morning. . The LA Times has an interesting article on the different approaches to dealing with dealing with fires. In the National Forests CAL Fire  aggressively try to put out fires as

The state agency protects 31 million acres of mostly private land and millions of acres of forests owned by timber companies, and it has the responsibility of protecting hundreds of small communities from wildfires.

National Parks on the other hand view fires as a natural process and allow fires to burn. The do suppress fires that threaten people, structures or resources. Read more at: Let it burn? Yosemite park officials won’t say that, but it’s policy – latimes.com.
