The New York Times wrote about a study where wild Vervet monkeys followed the social cues of others. Using different colors of corn, it was found that eating choices were influenced by the behavior of other monkeys who were either local or more dominant. It didn’t matter that in some experiments the corn tasted the same; the monkeys almost always followed the dominant or local monkeys. Monkeys would even change their preferred color if moved to a new environment where the locals ate a different color. Read more Study in Science Shows Monkeys Pick Up Social Cues – NYTimes.com.
