Pollutants Threaten Canadian Loons

BirdLife Community reports that the Common Loon population in Canada is being threatened by pollution. The pollution is  most likely coming from mercury and acid precipitation. Common Loons now produce enough chicks to support a stable population. However, reproductive success has declined significantly since 1992. If the current rate of decline continues the Loon population will begin to decrease in two decades.
