We went to Pt. Molate today hoping to see the herring run reported two days ago. We were there for about an hour starting one hours after high tide. No feeding frenzy, but lots of birds especially Gulls and Scaup which numbered in the hundreds or even over a thousand. (I am not good with estimating large numbers of birds). Also seen were many Western or Clark’s Grebes, Brown Pelicans, Double-crested Cormorants, Bufflehead and American Wigeon. This was my first time in this area and it was interesting to see all the birds not only in the water near the piers but also on and around Brothers Islands. I was able to identify 21 birds to species plus Scaup, Clark’s/Western Grebes and many of the Gulls which were too far out for me to identify to species. To see today’s species list go to Pt.
