The BBC reported that a rare bird of prey, a hen harrier was killed in North Yorkshire. The bird was illegally shot. It was one of about ten breeding pairs in the UK. The bird known as Bowland Betty had been fitted with a radio transmitter and was part of Natural England‘s Hen Harrier Recovery Project. The bird had actually died in July but the cause of death has only just been determined. A 1000 pound reward has been offered for information leading to the conviction of those responsible.
