Why do birds migrate in a V formation?

Audublog  reported on why do birds fly in “V” formations. Birds fly in V formations as this gives them an aerodynamic advantage.  The birds benefit from the upwash vortex fields created by the birds in front of them to fly with less effort. There are also benefits in terms of communication and vision that make the V formation advantageous.
