The Black Oak Naturalist posted an early season wildflower report for the Butterfly Valley Botanical Area.
“I found it was still mostly asleep from winter. However, Blackhawk Road and Butterfly Valley Road on either side had many new wildflowers blooming.”
“give it at least two more weeks. Might not be the greatest year for wildflowers in any case.”
Wildflowers he did see in bloom included: Red Larkspur, Scarlet Fritillary, Death Camus,Umbrella Plant, Macloskey’s Violet, 3 species of Yellow Violet and Checker Bloom.
