San Francisco Save the Frogs Day Events

SAVE THE FROGS! invites drummers, music lovers and frog lovers of all ages to the Save The Frogs Day DRUMMING FOR THE FROGS extravaganza at San Francisco’s oceanside Sharp Park. Bring your family and friends and of course your drum! This FREE inaugural event is both a celebration of amphibious life and a protest intended to raise awareness of the City of San Francisco’s illegal killing of federally endangered California Red-Legged Frogs each year when they drain the wetlands to create dry land for the taxpayer-funded, money-losing Sharp Park Golf Course. There will be hiking, guided naturalist walks, live music performances and music lessons; and educational presentations by SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger and amphibian biologists from California State Polytechnic University, UC Berkeley and San Francisco State University. And its all free.

Yosemite Save the Frogs Day  Celebations

This is the first time that Yosemite National Park will be celebrating “Save the Frogs Day.” Amphibian populations are declining throughout the world, including in Yosemite National Park, where the Mountain Yellow-Legged Frog is on the verge of extinction. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of the plight of amphibians worldwide. It is hoped that public education at events like these will raise awareness and result in the stabilization of populations of frogs and other amphibians.

Hi Sandy: I am totally enthusiastic and supportive of the concept of Save the Frogs Day, having named my oldest daughter Hyla after the tree frogs of Florida where I went to graduate school. Will post frog photos on my blog in the next day or two. Have you heard of the Worldwide Fair Play for Frogs Committee? It was partly serious and partly spoof perpetrated by the late Art Hoppe. If you’re interested, I’ll send you a little history.
