There is a posting on Calphotos by Jason Branz that the Poppies are starting to bloom along highway 140 at the Merced River Canyon. Check out the links to his photos

“Some poppies are starting to get going in the Merced River canyon, about 2 miles
past the bottom of the grade on 140. A couple of the hillsides are nice and
orange on the opposite side of the river from the highway. There are some
poppies on the road side as well a little farther up. Not much happening on the
big slope along the Hite Cove trail yet though.”

You can also see the fruit trees in bloom as you drive through the central valley.
