Anza Borrego Hawkwatch Begins Feb.15

The Anza Borrego Foundation announced that this year’s Hawkwatch will take place daily from February 15 to April 15. To participate go to the Morning Count Site on DiGiorgio Road, 2.3 miles north of Palm Canyon Drive, between 8 and 9 am (earlier on windy mornings) and the Evening Hawkwatch Site on Borrego Valley Road, 1.5 miles north of Palm Canyon Drive, one hour before sunset.

The Borrego Valley Hawkwatch counts more spring Swainson’s hawks than any other site in North America–in previous years counters have seen as many as 500 hawks in one day!

Swainson’s Hawks migrate more than 6,000 miles every spring and fall between their breeding grounds in North America to wintering grounds in South America. Find out what draws them here year after year.
