Solar Power Destroying The Desert

The LA Times recently published an article on the complex issues and controversy around large solar power development in the desert.  Environmental groups signed on to the projects because of their support for alternative energy and wanting a seat at the table to discuss how and where the solar operations would be built.  However, the solar projects will have significant negative impacts on the desert habitats and species including plants, birds, and desert tortoise. The national park service and other environmentalists are opposed to the current plans which include six square mile solar panel displays, 40 story construction cranes,a waste processing facility and gas-fired power plant.  Read more at: The solar power compromise: Sacrificing desert to save the Earth – latimes.com.

    I’ve heard it said that parts of the desert must be sacrificed in the service of attempting to curtail global warming. An extremely sad #$*& state of affairs….
