The LA Times reported on the recent recovery of the Catalina Island fox Urocyon littoralis catalinae. The population has increased to 1542 from just 100 in 1999. The population was about 1300 before being devastated by a disease that was probably introduced by a racoon or pet dog.This subspecies of fox is only found on the 76 square mile island.
