Smart Phone Apps For The Outdoors

Tom Stienstra posted an article on his SF Gate Outdoors blog listing ten practical smart phone apps for the outdoors.  They included maps, altimeter, sky maps, bird ID, survival skills and state park info. Read more at SFGate Maybe a smart phone can enhance the great outdoors.

Remember you won’t get cell reception in all parts of parks, especially in the Wilderness.  If your apt requires reception that may limit its usefulness. Also remember to keep your phone charged and not be overly dependent on it. Phones are  useful tools, but not substitutes for  good outdoor hiking  knowledge and survival skills.
