New York’s Official State Insect Is Back

The Nine-Spotted Ladybug returns after a 29 year Absence

The New York Times reports the official state insect the Nine-Spotted Ladybug (Coccinella novemnotata) has been located.  It was found in Amagansett  on July 30 in a sunflower patch by a volunteer who was part of the Lost Ladybug Project.  The find was confirmed by a Cornell entomologist. Sufficient numbers of the  Nine-Spotted Ladybugs have been collected at the site establish a colony.
